Description
Make incredibly simple, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth cookies using just three basic ingredients. No mixer needed for this quick recipe.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter and sugar. Mix them together by hand or with a wooden spoon until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Gradually mix in the flour until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix.
- Roll the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter, or press the dough into a 1/2-inch thick rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
- If rolling balls, flatten each one slightly with the tines of a fork to create a crosshatch pattern.
- Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between them.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For a crispier cookie, chill the dough for 30 minutes before shaping and baking.
- You can substitute powdered sugar for granulated sugar for a slightly softer texture.
- These cookies store well in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
