  • Author: Alexander Knight
  • Total Time: 2 hours 15 minutes
  • Yield: Approximately 4 cups
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Enjoy these delightfully crispy baked apple chips, a perfect and healthy fall snack. They satisfy your sweet cravings with a hint of cinnamon sugar, making them an irresistible treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium apples (like Honeycrisp or Fuji), thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 225°F (110°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Wash and thinly slice the apples. You can leave the skin on for extra nutrients and texture. Remove the core and seeds.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using).
  4. Arrange the apple slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets.
  5. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the apple slices.
  6. Bake for 1.5 to 2 hours, flipping the slices halfway through, until they are dry and slightly crispy.
  7. Turn off the oven, leave the oven door ajar, and let the chips cool completely in the oven. This helps them crisp up further.
  8. Once cooled, store the apple chips in an airtight container at room temperature.

Notes

  • For best results, slice the apples as uniformly as possible. A mandoline slicer is helpful for this.
  • Baking time may vary depending on the thickness of your apple slices and your oven.
  • If you prefer a less sweet chip, reduce the amount of sugar.
