Description

Make easy, juicy BBQ chicken sliders baked in the oven using sweet Hawaiian rolls and melted cheese for a crowd-pleasing appetizer or quick dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 1.5 lbs cooked, shredded chicken (rotisserie works well)
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite kind)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Cheddar, Gouda, or Pepper Jack)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the shredded chicken, BBQ sauce, water, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until the chicken is fully coated.
  3. Slice the entire package of Hawaiian rolls horizontally, keeping the rolls connected in one piece. Place the bottom half of the rolls in the prepared baking dish.
  4. Spread the seasoned chicken mixture evenly over the bottom layer of rolls.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the chicken mixture.
  6. Place the top half of the rolls over the cheese layer.
  7. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter. Brush the melted butter evenly over the top of the rolls.
  8. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil.
  9. Bake for 15 minutes covered.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and the tops of the rolls are lightly golden brown.
  11. Carefully slice the sliders apart between the rolls. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add 4 slices of cooked, crumbled bacon over the cheese before placing the top layer of rolls on.
  • If you prefer a tangier sauce, use half BBQ sauce and half honey mustard in the chicken mixture.
  • You can use leftover slow cooker shredded chicken for this recipe to save time.
