Description

Juicy and flavorful chicken cooked upright on a beer can with a savory herb rub.


Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken (about 4 lbs)
  • 1 can (12 oz) beer (any type)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp dried rosemary
  • 2 tbsp dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper


Instructions

  1. Preheat grill or oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Drink or pour out about 1/4 of the beer from the can.
  3. Combine rosemary, thyme, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a small bowl.
  4. Rub chicken with olive oil.
  5. Generously coat chicken with the herb rub inside and out.
  6. Place chicken over the beer can, inserting the can into the cavity.
  7. Place chicken on the grill or in a roasting pan in the oven.
  8. Cook for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  9. Carefully remove chicken from the beer can and let it rest for 10 minutes before carving.

  • You can use a chicken roasting stand if you prefer not to use a beer can.
