Description

Make crispy fried chicken coated in a creamy, sweet, and spicy sauce. This recipe is fast and works well for dinner or as an appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sriracha (adjust to your spice preference)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar

Instructions

  1. In a shallow dish, mix the flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  2. In a second shallow dish, whisk the egg and milk together.
  3. In a third shallow dish, place the panko breadcrumbs.
  4. Dredge each piece of chicken first in the flour mixture, shaking off excess.
  5. Dip the floured chicken into the egg mixture, letting excess drip off.
  6. Coat the chicken thoroughly in the panko breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to adhere.
  7. Pour about 1 inch of vegetable oil into a large skillet and heat over medium-high heat to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  8. Carefully place chicken pieces into the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Remove the cooked chicken and place it on a wire rack set over a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  10. While the chicken drains, prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, honey, and rice vinegar until smooth.
  11. Place the crispy chicken in a large bowl. Pour the sauce over the chicken and toss gently until all pieces are evenly coated.
  12. Serve immediately over rice or as a standalone appetizer.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can double-coat the chicken by dipping it back into the egg and then the panko after the first coating.
  • If you prefer not to deep fry, you can air fry the coated chicken at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 12 to 15 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Serve with sliced green onions or sesame seeds for garnish.
