Description

Enjoy a fun and portable breakfast with these delightful corn dog-style breakfast sausages coated in fluffy pancake batter. They’re a perfect treat for kids and a unique addition to your brunch table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage links
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Maple syrup or favorite syrup for serving

Instructions

  1. Thread two breakfast sausage links onto each wooden skewer.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, milk, and melted butter.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.
  5. Pour about 2-3 inches of vegetable oil into a deep pot or Dutch oven. Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).
  6. Dip each sausage-on-a-stick into the pancake batter, ensuring it’s fully coated. Let any excess batter drip off.
  7. Carefully place 2-3 battered sausages into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot.
  8. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and the pancake batter is cooked through.
  9. Remove the breakfast corn dogs with a slotted spoon and place them on a wire rack set over a baking sheet to drain.
  10. Serve hot with your favorite syrup for dipping.

Notes

  • You can make the batter ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator.
  • Ensure the oil is at the correct temperature for crispy results.
  • Adjust the thickness of the batter by adding a little more milk if it’s too thick, or a little more flour if it’s too thin.
