Description

Add a festive peppermint twist to your classic brownie recipe with these Candy Cane Brownies. They are perfect for holiday baking and bring a refreshing minty flavor to a beloved chocolate treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped candy canes (about 10-12 standard candy canes)
  • Optional: Red and green food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and chopped unsweetened chocolate over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth. Remove from heat.
  3. Stir the granulated sugar into the chocolate mixture until well combined.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract and peppermint extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Gently fold in the chopped candy canes. If desired, add a few drops of red and green food coloring to create swirls.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached.
  10. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting.
  11. Once cooled, cut into squares and serve.

Notes

  • Ensure your candy canes are finely chopped for even distribution.
  • For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark chocolate instead of unsweetened chocolate.
  • Allowing the brownies to cool completely is key for clean cuts.
