Description

These baked caramel apple cider donuts are a delightful fall treat, perfect for your autumn baking adventures. They capture the essence of the season with warm spices and sweet caramel.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup apple cider
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Topping:
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a donut pan or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, 1 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and eggs until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the apple cider and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Spoon or pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about two-thirds full.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. While the donuts are cooling, prepare the topping. In a shallow dish, combine the melted butter, 1 cup granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
  10. Dip each cooled donut first into the cinnamon-sugar mixture, coating both sides.
  11. Drizzle generously with caramel sauce.

Notes

  • For a richer apple flavor, you can reduce the apple cider by 1 tablespoon and add 1 tablespoon of apple cider concentrate.
  • Ensure your apple cider is at room temperature for better incorporation into the batter.
  • If you don’t have a donut pan, you can bake these as mini muffins in a muffin tin. Adjust baking time as needed.
  • Store leftover donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
