Description

Make soft, chewy, bakery-style sugar cookies decorated with festive Christmas sprinkles. This dough requires no chilling time, making holiday baking quick and easy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup Christmas sprinkles (red, green, festive shapes)
  • Extra sprinkles for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until just combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Gently fold in 1/2 cup of Christmas sprinkles into the dough.
  7. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie.
  8. Gently press the tops of the dough balls slightly with your fingers or the bottom of a glass.
  9. Sprinkle the tops of the cookies generously with extra festive sprinkles.
  10. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers look slightly soft.
  11. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For the softest cookies, slightly underbake them; they will set as they cool.
  • If you prefer a flatter cookie, roll the dough balls in extra sprinkles before baking.
  • This dough works well for cutting out shapes if you chill it for 30 minutes before rolling and cutting.
