Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- For the Glaze:
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2-4 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Stir in granulated sugar, melted butter, salt, and eggs.
- Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and roll it out into a large rectangle (about 12×18 inches).
- Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough.
- In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle evenly over the buttered dough.
- Roll up the dough tightly, starting from one of the long sides.
- Cut the roll into 12 equal slices.
- Place rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While rolls are baking, prepare the glaze: Beat softened cream cheese and butter until smooth.
- Gradually beat in powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
- Add milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached.
- Spread glaze over warm cinnamon rolls.
Notes
- Ensure your milk is warm, not hot, to avoid killing the yeast.
- For extra gooey rolls, slightly underbake them.
- You can add chopped nuts to the cinnamon-sugar mixture for added texture.
- The glaze can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator. Let it soften slightly before spreading.
