Description
A classic beef lasagna recipe, perfect for family dinners. Layers of pasta, rich meat sauce, and creamy cheese make this a comforting favorite.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 1 (15 ounce) container ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion. Drain off any excess grease.
- Stir in the minced garlic, crushed tomatoes, and tomato paste. Add basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- While the sauce simmers, cook the lasagna noodles according to package directions. Drain well.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese.
- Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Arrange three lasagna noodles over the sauce.
- Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles.
- Sprinkle one-third of the mozzarella cheese over the ricotta mixture.
- Spoon about one-third of the remaining meat sauce over the mozzarella.
- Repeat the layers: noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and sauce.
- Top with the remaining noodles, sauce, and mozzarella cheese.
- Cover the dish with foil.
- Bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a richer sauce, you can add a splash of red wine while simmering the meat.
- If you prefer a smoother ricotta layer, you can blend it briefly in a food processor.
- Ensure your lasagna noodles are completely submerged in sauce or covered with cheese to prevent them from drying out.
