Description
A traditional recipe for baking cod fillets topped with a buttery cracker crust, resulting in a moist fish and a crisp topping.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 (6 ounce) cod fillets, fresh or thawed
- 1 cup crushed butter crackers (like Ritz)
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
- Place the cod fillets in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the fish evenly with salt and pepper.
- In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, crushed crackers, and lemon juice. Mix until the crumbs are evenly coated.
- Spoon the cracker mixture evenly over the top of each cod fillet, pressing lightly to adhere.
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork and the topping is golden brown.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- Use Atlantic cod for the most traditional texture.
- If you do not have butter crackers, use panko breadcrumbs mixed with 2 tablespoons of melted butter instead.
- Baking time depends on the thickness of your fillets; check for doneness early if the fillets are thin.
