Description

Make a warm, satisfying tuna melt. This recipe combines tuna salad with melted cheese on grilled bread for a classic sandwich.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (5 ounces) tuna, drained
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 stalk celery, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 4 slices bread (sourdough, rye, or white)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 slices cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or provolone)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, celery, red onion (if using), and fresh dill (if using).
  2. Mix well until all ingredients are combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Spread butter evenly on one side of each bread slice.
  4. Place two slices of bread, butter-side down, in a large skillet or on a griddle over medium heat.
  5. Spoon half of the tuna mixture onto each slice of bread in the skillet.
  6. Top each tuna mound with two slices of cheese.
  7. Place the remaining two slices of bread, butter-side up, on top of the cheese.
  8. Cook for 3-5 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Remove from the skillet, slice in half, and serve hot.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of garlic powder or a dash of hot sauce to the tuna mixture.
  • Use a non-stick skillet for easy flipping.
  • Adjust the amount of mayonnaise to your preferred consistency for the tuna salad.
