Description
Make exceptionally crispy tofu bites using your air fryer. This simple recipe uses cornstarch for maximum crunch, perfect for snacks or salads.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 block (14 ounces) extra-firm tofu
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Cooking spray (or 1 teaspoon neutral oil)
Instructions
- Press the tofu for at least 30 minutes to remove excess water. Wrap the block in paper towels or a clean cloth and place a heavy object on top.
- Cut the pressed tofu into 1-inch cubes or bite-sized pieces.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic powder, and pepper. Add the tofu pieces and gently toss to coat. Let it marinate for 10 minutes.
- In a separate small bowl, mix the cornstarch and smoked paprika.
- Drain any excess liquid from the tofu bowl. Add the cornstarch mixture to the tofu and toss until every piece is evenly coated.
- Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
- Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or brush with oil. Arrange the tofu bites in a single layer in the basket. Do not overcrowd the basket; work in batches if necessary.
- Air fry for 10 to 14 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until the tofu is golden brown and very crispy.
- Serve immediately with your preferred dipping sauce.
Notes
- For the crispiest results, ensure you press out as much water as possible from the tofu before seasoning.
- If you prefer a slightly sweeter flavor, add 1 teaspoon of maple syrup to the marinade.
- Toss the cooked tofu bites with a light glaze of sriracha or sweet chili sauce after air frying for added flavor.
