Description

Make tofu exceptionally crispy and coat it in a sweet and tangy honey mustard glaze. This recipe uses baking for a firm, crunchy texture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 block (14 oz) extra-firm tofu, pressed
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil (for tossing)
  • For the Glaze:
  • 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce or tamari

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu for at least 30 minutes to remove excess water. Cut the pressed tofu into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a medium bowl, gently toss the tofu cubes with soy sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until lightly coated.
  3. Sprinkle the cornstarch over the tofu and toss again until every piece has a thin, even coating.
  4. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease it with oil.
  5. Spread the coated tofu cubes in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon of neutral oil.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes. Flip the tofu pieces and bake for another 10-15 minutes until they are golden brown and very crispy.
  7. While the tofu bakes, prepare the glaze. Whisk together the Dijon mustard, honey (or maple syrup), apple cider vinegar, and soy sauce in a small bowl.
  8. Remove the crispy tofu from the oven. Place the hot tofu back into the mixing bowl.
  9. Pour the honey mustard glaze over the hot tofu and gently toss until all pieces are evenly coated and sticky. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Pressing the tofu thoroughly is the most important step for achieving maximum crispiness.
  • For an air fryer, cook at 380°F (195°C) for 12-15 minutes, shaking halfway through.
  • Toss the tofu in the sauce immediately after removing it from the heat so the residual warmth helps the glaze adhere.
