Description

Make a moist, rich banana bread loaded with crushed Oreo cookies for a simple, decadent treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 large overripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup Oreo cookies, roughly chopped (plus 1/4 cup for topping)
  • 1/4 cup milk chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a standard 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the bananas well. Stir in the melted butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract until combined.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Gently fold in 1 cup of the chopped Oreo cookies and the chocolate chips, if using.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup of chopped Oreos over the top.
  7. Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before carefully removing it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For extra decadence, drizzle melted dark chocolate over the top after the bread has cooled slightly.
  • Use very ripe, spotty bananas for the best moisture and flavor.
  • If the top browns too quickly during baking, loosely cover the loaf with aluminum foil for the last 15 minutes.
