Description
Make a moist, rich banana bread loaded with crushed Oreo cookies for a simple, decadent treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 large overripe bananas, mashed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup Oreo cookies, roughly chopped (plus 1/4 cup for topping)
- 1/4 cup milk chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a standard 9×5 inch loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, mash the bananas well. Stir in the melted butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract until combined.
- In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Gently fold in 1 cup of the chopped Oreo cookies and the chocolate chips, if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup of chopped Oreos over the top.
- Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before carefully removing it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For extra decadence, drizzle melted dark chocolate over the top after the bread has cooled slightly.
- Use very ripe, spotty bananas for the best moisture and flavor.
- If the top browns too quickly during baking, loosely cover the loaf with aluminum foil for the last 15 minutes.
