Description

Fluffy and flavorful garlic breadsticks perfect for dipping in your favorite sauces or enjoying on their own.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (105-115°F)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 to 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir in sugar and salt. Let stand for 5-10 minutes, or until foamy.
  2. Gradually stir in flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a breadstick shape, about 8-10 inches long.
  7. Place breadsticks on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil and minced garlic. Brush the mixture over the breadsticks.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. While breadsticks are still warm, brush with melted butter and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and parsley, if desired.
  11. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For best results, use a thermometer to check the water temperature.
  • You can add additional herbs like oregano or basil to the dough or the topping.
  • Store leftover breadsticks in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave.
