Description
Make delicious Korean Beef Bulgogi Bowls at home. This recipe brings the savory, sweet flavors of traditional bulgogi right to your dinner table for a satisfying meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb thinly sliced beef (sirloin or ribeye)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup water or beef broth
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- Cooked rice for serving
- Optional toppings: sliced green onions, sesame seeds, shredded carrots
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, black pepper, and water or broth to create the marinade.
- Add the thinly sliced beef to the marinade. Toss to coat completely. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours in the refrigerator.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Remove the beef from the marinade, letting excess drip off. Do not overcrowd the pan; cook the beef in batches if necessary.
- Cook the beef quickly, stirring constantly, for 2-4 minutes until browned and cooked through.
- Return all the cooked beef to the skillet. If there is remaining marinade, pour it in and let it simmer for one minute until slightly thickened.
- Serve the Korean beef bulgogi immediately over bowls of cooked rice.
- Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.
Notes
- Thinly slicing the beef against the grain helps keep it tender. You can ask your butcher to slice it for you.
- If you prefer a less sweet flavor, reduce the brown sugar slightly.
- For extra flavor, add a splash of rice vinegar to the marinade.
