Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Boil the cubed sweet potatoes until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain well.
  3. In a large bowl, mash the sweet potatoes. Stir in the melted butter, maple syrup, 1/4 cup brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the sweet potato mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  5. In a separate medium bowl, combine the chopped pecans, flour, and the remaining 1/4 cup brown sugar. Cut in the cold butter pieces until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Sprinkle the pecan topping evenly over the sweet potato mixture.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the casserole is heated through.
  8. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For an extra festive touch, add a sprinkle of cinnamon on top before serving.
  • If you prefer a smoother casserole, you can use an electric mixer to mash the sweet potatoes.
  • You can prepare the casserole ahead of time and bake it just before serving.
