Description

A straightforward recipe for cooking tender, flavorful pork ribs entirely in your home oven.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 lbs pork ribs (Baby Back or St. Louis cut)
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 cup water or apple juice
  • 1 cup your favorite BBQ sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit (150 degrees Celsius).
  2. Remove the thin membrane from the bone side of the ribs using a paper towel to grip it.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the paprika, brown sugar, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper to create your dry rub.
  4. Generously coat all sides of the ribs with the dry rub mixture. Press the rub firmly into the meat.
  5. Place the seasoned ribs meat-side up on a large sheet of heavy-duty aluminum foil.
  6. Pour the water or apple juice into the foil around the base of the ribs.
  7. Wrap the foil tightly around the ribs to create a sealed packet. This traps moisture.
  8. Place the foil packet on a baking sheet. Bake for 2.5 to 3 hours, or until the meat is very tender.
  9. Carefully remove the ribs from the oven. Increase the oven temperature to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius).
  10. Open the foil packet, drain any excess liquid from the packet, and discard the foil.
  11. Place the ribs directly on a clean baking sheet, bone-side down. Brush generously with BBQ sauce.
  12. Return the ribs to the 400 degree oven, uncovered, for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the sauce is slightly caramelized and sticky.
  13. Remove from the oven, let rest for 10 minutes before slicing between the bones.

Notes

  • For extra tender, fall-off-the-bone results, cook the ribs wrapped for 3 hours, then unwrap and finish with sauce for 15 minutes.
  • If you prefer a firmer texture, reduce the initial wrapped cooking time to 2 hours.
  • You can substitute the dry rub ingredients with 3 tablespoons of your preferred store-bought dry rub.
