Ingredients

  • Pears, peeled, cored, and sliced: 4 cups
  • Fresh or frozen cranberries: 1 cup
  • Granulated sugar (for filling): 1/4 cup
  • Lemon juice: 1 tablespoon
  • All-purpose flour (for filling): 1 tablespoon
  • Rolled oats (for topping): 1 cup
  • Brown sugar (for topping): 1/2 cup
  • All-purpose flour (for topping): 1/2 cup
  • Cold unsalted butter, cubed (for topping): 1/2 cup
  • Ground cinnamon: 1 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced pears, cranberries, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, lemon juice, and 1 tablespoon of flour. Toss gently to coat.
  3. Pour the fruit mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  4. In a separate bowl, prepare the crisp topping. Mix the rolled oats, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup flour, and cinnamon.
  5. Cut in the cold butter using your fingers or a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the fruit layer.
  7. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  8. Let the crisp cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. Enjoy this warm treat!

Notes

  • If you use frozen cranberries, do not thaw them before mixing with the fruit.
  • For an extra layer of flavor, add 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg to the crisp topping.
  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
