Description

Make a homemade barbecue sauce balancing sweet pineapple, spicy jalapeno, and rich bourbon flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup crushed pineapple, undrained
  • 1/2 cup bourbon
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 medium jalapeno, seeded and minced

Instructions

  1. Combine the crushed pineapple, bourbon, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and minced jalapeno in a medium saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer gently for 20 minutes, stirring every few minutes to prevent sticking. The sauce will thicken slightly.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat.
  5. Carefully transfer the sauce to a blender or use an immersion blender to blend until smooth. If you prefer a chunkier sauce, pulse briefly or skip this step.
  6. Pour the sauce back into the saucepan. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  7. Cool the sauce completely before serving or storing.

Notes

  • For a thicker sauce, simmer for an additional 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Store the finished sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
  • Use this sauce as a glaze for grilled chicken, pork ribs, or pulled pork.
