Description
Prepare and bake this simple egg and bread casserole fast for a speedy morning meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup cooked, crumbled breakfast sausage
- 4 slices day-old bread, cubed
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, mustard powder, salt, and pepper until combined.
- Stir in the shredded cheese and cooked sausage.
- Arrange the cubed bread evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, pressing down gently to soak the bread.
- Sprinkle any remaining cheese or sausage on top if desired.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is lightly golden brown.
- Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before cutting and serving.
Notes
- Use slightly stale or day-old bread for the best texture in the casserole.
- You can substitute ham or bacon for the sausage if you prefer.
- To make this ahead, assemble the casserole completely, cover it, and refrigerate for up to 12 hours. Add 5 to 10 minutes to the baking time if baking directly from the refrigerator.
