Description

Make savory, restaurant-style pan fried noodles in under 15 minutes using basic pantry ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz dried egg noodles or ramen noodles
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup sliced carrots
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • 1/2 cup sliced green onions, separated white and green parts
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce (for color)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper

Instructions

  1. Cook the noodles according to package directions until just tender. Drain them immediately and rinse with cold water to stop cooking. Set aside.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the minced garlic and the white parts of the green onions. Stir fry for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add the carrots and cabbage to the skillet. Stir fry for 2 to 3 minutes until the vegetables begin to soften slightly.
  5. Add the cooked and drained noodles to the skillet.
  6. Pour the soy sauce, dark soy sauce, sesame oil, and white pepper over the noodles and vegetables.
  7. Toss everything together quickly and continuously for 2 to 3 minutes until the noodles are heated through and evenly coated with the sauce.
  8. Stir in the green parts of the green onions just before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use 1 teaspoon of oyster sauce along with the soy sauces.
  • If you prefer more protein, add 1/2 cup of cooked, shredded chicken or shrimp during step 4.
  • Do not overcook the noodles initially; they will continue to cook when stir-fried.
