Description
A vibrant and aromatic side dish, this Saffron Rice Pilaf is a beautiful addition to any meal, featuring fluffy basmati rice infused with the golden hue and delicate flavor of saffron threads.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
- 1 cup basmati rice, rinsed
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1/4 teaspoon saffron threads
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Warm the olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the rinsed basmati rice and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly, until the grains are lightly toasted.
- Pour in the chicken broth, add the saffron threads, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan tightly, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the liquid is absorbed and the rice is tender.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes.
- Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.
Notes
- Rinsing the rice helps remove excess starch, leading to fluffier grains.
- Gently crush the saffron threads between your fingers before adding them to release more color and flavor.
- Adjust salt and pepper to your preference.
