Description
This recipe shows you how to quickly cook fresh asparagus in a skillet with butter and garlic until it reaches a crisp-tender texture.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound fresh asparagus
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional)
Instructions
- Wash the asparagus. Snap off the tough, woody ends of the asparagus spears; discard the ends.
- Place a large skillet over medium heat. Add the butter and let it melt completely.
- Add the minced garlic to the melted butter and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Do not let the garlic brown.
- Add the trimmed asparagus spears to the skillet in a single layer if possible.
- Sauté the asparagus, stirring occasionally, for 5 to 8 minutes until it turns bright green and is crisp-tender when pierced with a fork.
- Remove the skillet from the heat. Season with salt and pepper.
- Toss with lemon juice, if using, before serving immediately.
Notes
- For best results, use fresh, medium-thickness asparagus spears.
- If your spears are very thin, reduce the cooking time by 1 to 2 minutes to prevent overcooking.
- You can substitute olive oil for half of the butter for a slightly lighter flavor.
