Description
This Seared Ahi Tuna Steaks with a Ginger Soy Marinade recipe delivers a quick, healthy, and flavorful Asian-inspired meal. Enjoy fresh tuna seared to perfection.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 Ahi tuna steaks (about 6 oz each)
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- ½ teaspoon honey or maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
- Green onions, sliced, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a shallow dish, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, grated ginger, minced garlic, sesame oil, and honey.
- Place the tuna steaks in the marinade, turning to coat. Marinate for 15-20 minutes at room temperature. Do not marinate for too long, as the acid can start to ‘cook’ the fish.
- Heat olive oil in a non-stick skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Remove tuna from marinade, letting any excess drip off. Discard remaining marinade.
- Carefully place tuna steaks in the hot pan. Sear for 1-2 minutes per side for rare to medium-rare, or longer if you prefer it more cooked. The outside should be nicely browned, and the inside still pink.
- Remove tuna from pan and let rest for a minute before slicing.
- Slice the tuna against the grain into ½-inch thick pieces.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions, if desired. Serve immediately with your favorite sides.
Notes
- For best results, use fresh, sushi-grade tuna.
- Adjust the searing time based on your preferred doneness.
- This dish pairs well with steamed rice, stir-fried vegetables, or a simple green salad.
