Description

A straightforward recipe for a hearty, cheesy ground beef casserole topped with crispy tater tots, perfect for a quick family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 bag (about 32 ounces) frozen tater tots

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess fat.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the cooked ground beef, cream of mushroom soup, milk, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  4. Spread the beef mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the beef mixture.
  6. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer over the cheese.
  7. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the tater tots are golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, substitute cream of chicken soup for the cream of mushroom soup.
  • You can add 1/2 cup of frozen mixed vegetables, like peas and carrots, to the beef mixture before baking.
  • To make this a Cheeseburger Tater Tot Casserole, add 1/2 cup of finely chopped onion to the beef while browning and use 1 cup of American cheese instead of cheddar.
