Quick and Easy Homemade Chocolate Syrup

  • Author: Ahazzam

  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Make a rich, silky chocolate syrup from scratch using cocoa powder. This recipe is faster and tastes better than store-bought versions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Combine the sugar, cocoa powder, and water in a small saucepan.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat. Whisk the mixture constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to simmer.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer gently for 1 minute, stirring occasionally. Do not boil rapidly.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
  5. Allow the syrup to cool completely before using. It will thicken as it cools.
  6. Pour the cooled syrup into an airtight container for storage.

Notes

  • For a vegan version, use only standard ingredients as listed, as they are typically vegan.
  • To make a sugar-free version, substitute the sugar with your preferred granular zero-calorie sweetener, adjusting the amount to your taste.
  • This syrup thickens significantly when refrigerated. If it becomes too thick for drizzling, warm a small amount gently on the stovetop or in the microwave.
  • Use this syrup to flavor milk for chocolate milk or mochas, or pour it over ice cream and pancakes.
