Description

A delightful fusion dessert combining the comforting flavors of cinnamon rolls with the classic appeal of apple pie. This Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie is a sweet and spiced treat perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 recipe for homemade or store-bought pie crust
  • 1 recipe for cinnamon roll dough (or 1 can refrigerated cinnamon roll dough)
  • 6 cups thinly sliced apples (about 6 medium apples)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare your cinnamon roll dough according to your recipe or can instructions. Roll it out to fit the bottom of your pie dish. Press the dough into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie plate.
  3. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. Pour the apple filling into the pie crust. Dot the top of the apples with the small pieces of butter.
  5. Roll out the second pie crust (or the remaining cinnamon roll dough if using homemade cinnamon roll dough for the top) to fit the top of the pie. Place it over the apple filling. Crimp the edges to seal.
  6. Cut vents in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  7. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar, if desired.
  8. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. If the crust starts to brown too quickly, loosely tent it with foil.
  9. Let the pie cool for at least 2-3 hours before slicing and serving to allow the filling to set.

Notes

  • For store-bought cinnamon roll dough, you will need two cans. Use one for the bottom crust and one for the top.
  • Using a mix of apple varieties will provide a more complex flavor.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat.
