Description
This is a simple dump-and-go slow cooker chili recipe using a mix of beef and turkey, perfect for busy cooks. It simmers all day for deep flavor.

- 1 pound ground beef (80/20 recommended)
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 2 (15 ounce) cans kidney beans, rinsed and drained
- 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes, undrained
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 (4 ounce) can diced green chiles, undrained
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
Instructions
- Brown the ground beef and ground turkey in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
- Transfer the browned meat to your slow cooker.
- Add the chopped onion, green bell pepper, rinsed beans, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and diced green chiles to the slow cooker.
- Stir in the chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper, if using. Mix everything well.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours, or on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours.
- Stir the chili before serving. Taste and adjust seasonings if needed.
- Serve your award winning chili hot with your favorite toppings.
Notes
- For a thicker chili, remove the lid for the last 30 minutes of cooking time.
- This recipe freezes very well; portion it into freezer-safe containers for easy future meals.
- If you prefer a pure beef crockpot chili, substitute the turkey with another pound of ground beef.
