Description
A light and cool summer cocktail featuring muddled fresh strawberries and basil, perfect for warm weather.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 fresh strawberries, hulled
- 5 fresh basil leaves
- 2 oz gin or vodka
- 0.75 oz fresh lime juice
- 0.75 oz simple syrup
- Ice
- Soda water (optional, for topping)
- Strawberry slice and basil sprig for garnish
Instructions
- Place the strawberries and basil leaves into a cocktail shaker.
- Gently muddle the fruit and herbs until they release their juices and aroma. Do not over-muddle the basil, as it can become bitter.
- Add the gin or vodka, lime juice, and simple syrup to the shaker.
- Fill the shaker with ice.
- Seal the shaker and shake well until thoroughly chilled, about 15 seconds.
- Double strain the mixture into an ice-filled rocks glass or a highball glass.
- If using, top with a splash of soda water.
- Garnish with a fresh strawberry slice and a basil sprig.
Notes
- To make simple syrup, combine equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan and heat until the sugar dissolves. Cool before using.
- For a stronger basil flavor, you can gently clap the basil garnish between your hands before placing it in the drink.
- If you prefer a sweeter drink, increase the simple syrup to 1 oz.
